Qualification Scheme
Ifpra World Executive has been exploring a means of developing a qualification that would provide its members with additional professional knowledge to better equip them in their management of parks and to enhance their career. In that regard, discussions have taken place with the Eppley Institute, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA. As a unit of the Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Studies Department at Indiana University, the Eppley Institute is a full-service organization that provides consulting, research, training design and development, distance education, and management.
Arising from discussion at Ifpra Commissioners’ meetings, a number of topics (listed below) were identified as being important for consideration as modules that would serve as Continuing Educational Units (CEUs) or Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Management Techniques for Parks & Recreation professionals
- Marketing Techniques – Availing of commercial opportunities.
- Exchange of Best Practice & Human Resource Management in different countries
- Public Consultation Methods used in different countries for communicating with user groups (including politicians). Parks as a social tool in community development.
- Parks Asset Management & Renewal Planning
- Green Infrastructure Planning – Value of cycle and pedestrian routes
- Economic Evaluation Techniques - Green Space Values – Importance of real estate in monetary terms
- The value and use of green space for promoting healthy communities.
